This evening, work will commence on the redirecting of a sewer line along Commercial Street in Weymouth. The Town recently awarded a contract for the work to Caliacco Corporation of Weymouth to re-direct the existing line in Weymouth Landing and demolish the existing pump station. This is part of the many infrastructure improvements taking place in the Landing in order to achieve the redevelopment of the Village Center.
Work will be conducted from 9PM – 5AM, Monday through Friday, beginning on August 19th and concluding on August 29th
The roadway will be decreased to one lane in each direction and there will be no parking along the west side of Commercial Street between Front Street and Brookside Road.
There will be no parking along Commercial Street in front of Peking Kitchen, Simply Polished, and Washington Street Liquors beginning at 9PM. Parking will become available after 5AM daily.
Traffic Flow to be Reduced to 2 Lanes and police from Weymouth and Braintree will be on site.
Traffic re-direct during business construction
The Town worked with the awarded contractor to establish a viable traffic management plan that would be the least disruptive to the businesses and traffic travelling through the Landing. As the districtt 2 Town Councilor, I met with local law enforcement from both Weymouth and Braintree along with other town officials and the contracttr last week at the public meeting to discuss safety concerns.
As part of the plan, the roadway will be covered with steel plates during the day so that traffic and parking will be unaffected outside of the work hours. Although the work may be noisy, it was determined that night work would have a limited impact on traffic and reduce the number of total working days required to complete the project.
